Abstract

A field experiment was conducted on sandy soils at Agricultural Research Station, Radhanpur (North Gujarat) during 2003-2006 to ascertain the effect of bio-fertilizer, various organic sources alone or along with inorganic fertilizers on productivity of pearl millet and post harvest soil fertility under rain fed condition. There were twelve treatments involving inorganic, organic and bio fertilizers (Azotobacter/Azospirilum and PSM ). All the treatments of nutrient management found significantly superior over absolute control. Maximum yield (1920 kg/ha), total income, net realization (Rs. 16709/ha) and BC Ratio (2.75) were obtained due to application of recommended dose of NP fertilization (80:40 NP kg/ha) along with gypsum @ 250 kg/ha .The maximum uptakes of N, P and K by pearl millet were significantly affected and recorded maximum with application of NP fertilization+gypsum @ 250 kg/ha. The available phosphorus and DTPA extractable micronutrients status after harvesting of crop were significantly affected due to different treatment.

Abstract

An experiment was carried out during the Kharif season of 1986 to 1995 on light textured soils of North Saurashtra Agro-climatic Zone at Jamkhabhalia to study the nitrogen and phosphorus requirement of castor (Ricinus communis L.) under rainfed conditions. The results revealed that significantly higher grain yield (617 kg/ha), highest net ICBR (1:3.59) and FUE (2.8) were obtained when castor was fertilized with 30 kg N/ha. Application of phosphorus @ 30 kg P₂O₅/ha significantly increased yield of castor with net ICBR 1:1.10 and 1.83 FUE as compared to control.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Dry Farming Research Station, Nana Kandhasar (Gujarat) during Kharif 1999-2007 to study the effect of nutrient management (including chemical fertilizer, FYM and biofertilizers) on sesame yield and post harvest soil fertility in sandy loam soils under rainfed condition. Maximum grain yields as well as net realization were recorded under application of NP @ 25:25 kg ha^-1 along with FYM 5 t ha^-1. Integration of inorganic and organic sources was positively influenced the availability of various plant nutrients in the soil.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted at Dry Farming Research Station, Targhadia (Gujarat) to study the effect of bio inoculants (Compost culture, PSM and Azotobacter) and natural amendments (rock phosphate and iron pyrite) on nutritional composition of compost. The samples were drawn after 30, 60 and 90 days after composting. The organic carbon and C/N ratio decreased during maturation of the compost irrespective of treatments. At 90 days, minimum organic carbon (20.46%) and C/N ratio (9.39) was recorded with incorporate RP+MI+urea+Pyrite @ 5% on weight basis (T₆). Irrespective of treatments the total content of N, P, K S and micronutrients (Fe, Zn, Mn, Cu) were increased with advancement in maturity period of composting and their highest values were observed with RP @ 1% P₂O₅+MI (compost culture-Azotobacter, PSM) @ 500 g/t+urea @ 0.5%+Pyrite @ 5% on weight basis of crop residues.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Dry Farming Research Station, Targhadia (Gujarat) during Kharif 1997-2002 to study the effect of crop residue recycling through organic mulches and their decomposition with varying levels of nitrogen on soil and crop productivity in groundnut-pearlmillet sequence under dry farming condition. It was noticed from results that mulching of farm waste found better for maintaining status of organic carbon, available nitrogen and potash while, wheat straw and groundnut shell found superior in case of available phosphorus and sulphur, respectively. Groundnut shell was found superior among various mulches in respect to physical parameters of soil.

Abstract

The results revealed that the grain and fodder yields of pearl millet were significantly affected due to different nutritional treatments. Maximum grain (1611 kg/ ha) and fodder (4160 kg/ha),total income (Rs. 23623/ha) and net realization (Rs.10376/ha) were obtained when pearl millet was fertilized with 50% RDF (40:20 kg NP /ha along with compost @ 2.5 t/ha and 500 kg castor cake/ha(T4). The organic carbon content of soil as well as available status of nitrogen, phosphorus, potash and iron were remarkably improved when compost and castor cake involved in nutrient management of pearl millet.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted for successive six years (2001 to 2006) at Dry farming Research Station. Targhadia (Gujarat) to study the response of oilseed crops (soybean, groundnut, sesame) to enriched and vermicompost on Vertic Ustochrept under rainfed conditions. There were four treatments comprised enriched compost @ 6 t/ha, 50% RDF+1 t/ha vermicompost, vermicompost @ 2t/ha and 100% RDF for respective crop. Maximum yield of soybean and groundnut were recorded with enriched compost @ 6 t/ha and that for sesame under 100% RDF. The application of enriched compost @ 6 t/ha was proved better for obtaining maximum uptake of N, P and K by soybean as well as groundnut and P and K uptake by sesame. Treatments involving enriched compost or vermicompost found beneficial in respect to availability of various nutrients at harvest.

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 1985 to 1996 on Vertic ustochrepts soils at Main Dry Farming Research Station, Targhadia (Gujarat) to study the effect of periodical application of phosphorus with and without FYM on content and uptake of nutrients by groundnut and soil fertility. The results revealed that the content of N, P and K in pod and haulm of groundnut and their total uptake as well as protein content were increased due to application of FYM and phosphorus. Significant positive effect of applied FYM was observed on status of organic carbon and available P, K and S in the soil. The organic carbon content and available status of potassium in the soil could not significantly alter due to periodical application of phosphorus. However, application of P was found beneficial in respect to available status of P and S in the soil.
